Choosing a Product
In recent years the Internet has developed into an immense system, impacting the way that the typical “netrepreneur” is able to maximize their earning potential. It has also had an obvious impact on the way that people hire services and purchase various products.
The Internet has grown from being a kind of overwhelming technology with limited accessibility and slow connections, to becoming a massive, yet streamlined entity that has a major impact on people’s lives socially as well as financially. With the rise of social networking sites such as MySpace, Digg, Direct Matches and a myriad of others, families are able to use this technology to keep in touch and marketers are able to use these sites, as well as Squidoo, MyWarrior Network and others to promote their products and services in a new way.
Since the advent of internet marketing, buying and selling products has been revolutionised. Huge companies like Amazon and eBay make it incredibly easy for even the most novice of internet users to use their facilities to buy or even sell their products.
Internet marketing is able to create a strong bond between consumers and the available services and products in the market, without the customer having to leave the comfort of their home. This however has in turn, created the need for us to develop a new way of promoting our products and services. When we don’t have the advantage of face to face communication with someone who came to our store specifically because they want to buy what we sell, we have to start thinking outside of the box alittle…
Many people overlook the fact that there is more to achieving success in Internet marketing than simply focussing on promotion and marketing. Don’t fall into the trap of worrying so much about how to advertise, promote, or market your product that you forget about one of the most important aspects of Internet marketing — the product itself.
As with any kind of business, there are two important secrets to Internet marketing success: these being, finding or creating a profitable product, and the way you market your product. The conversion rate is extremely important to be successful in Internet marketing. There is an obvious correlation here, the higher the conversion rates of your product, the greater the profit you will make.
Conversion rates rely on the demand for your product. Profitable products for Internet marketing are those that create or meet current demands within the market. For your product to be profitable, it must be something that people desire, not simply something that they need.
This means that simply having a product to sell may not create the kind of business that you long for. Advertising experts established some time ago, the fact that people prefer to buy products based on their emotional reaction to them rather than based on the products necessity to them.
The point here being that people need a good emotional reason to purchase something. This is something that the successful Internet marketers have learned to understand. Even consumers who shop online are more likely to buy because they found the advertising and the information about the product compelling. Online shoppers perhaps need to be catered for with even more imaginative advertising and information provided to them, simply because they have so much information at their fingertips via the search engines.
Here are some tips that you may find useful when choosing your products:
When you are deciding upon a product to sell, ensure that you have used, or are at least thoroughly familiar with the product, what it does, why it meets the needs of a particular market and how it will benefit the person who buys it. It is much easier to sell something that you are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about.

1. Research your market.
A good place to start your research is by exploring which products have already established a constant demand in the market you are aiming for. Study these products and decide if you can provide something that will compliment the product already in the market place by offering an enhanced version of this product or by discovering a different use for it. If you are going to sell similar products to those already in the market place, people will need a reason to buy from you rather than the next person and it doesn’t always come down to being the best at ad-words campaigns (although this can help a lot..)
It is always a good idea if possible to make feasibility studies on the products you plan to sell. The most important thing to observe here is how you can ensure that your product will create the strongest impact in the market. What is it about your product that will compel people to buy instantly? Why should people want to buy your product right now, even if the item is out of their budget?
2. Special occasions and holiday shopping.
It is hard to imagine a time when people won’t want certain items at certain times such as wedding presents, baby shower presents, Christmas presents etc. Whatever their budget is, people will usually find money for items that are useful for these kind of special occasions.
Remember that if you are going to sell holiday specific products, you will need to create your sales and marketing plan well in advance. You need to have the products available to go at the right time and the advertising in place to ensure that your products are among the first to be presented. Many people choose to market such in demand types of products knowing that there is a huge ready made demand for them but you need to be organised in order not to miss the boat on this type of marketing.
3. Affiliate marketing
If you are wary of creating a profitable product to market on the Internet, you may prefer to start out by affiliate marketing.
This is one way that you can keep your initial costs down because you will not have to spend money on developing new products or on identifying profitable products that you can buy resell rights to market yourself.
With affiliate marketing, you simply choose your product and then market it. If the products that you choose are in demand, and you get your advertising right, you will have a good chance to succeed in this type of Internet marketing. Many people use affiliates to market their products these days and services like Amazon, Clickbank and Paydotcom have their own affiliate schemes whereby anybody can search their product database and set up a free affiliate account to sell their vendors’ products.
